Wolfgar
was one of the first Equine Practices in Devon to construct a purpose built Equine
Operating Theatre including
anaesthetic suite and
modern Hospitalisation facilities All
routine surgery is undertaken at Wolfgar on a regular basis Horses
requiring General Anaesthetics are admitted the previous day, food is withheld
overnight, shoes removed and the horse thoroughly cleaned The
following day horse has an intravenous catheter placed and given a premedication
or sedatives, then taken to the Induction box where the anaesthetic Induction
agent is given. The horse lies down at this stage and a tube is placed in the
trachea and connected to the gas anaesthetic machine The
horse is then carefully winched up and placed on the operating table in the correct
position for that particular surgery After
the procedure the horse is placed in the padded recovery box and the doors shut
and then left to recover alone as this can be a very dangerous time |
