We encourage all our mare owners considering AI this year, to discuss the process
with one of our vets. At
Wolfgar we are able to offer not only stabling for these mares but also have 70
acres of grassland available. Mares
are admitted to the clinic as soon as there is signs of oestrus. If your mare
doesn't show obvious signs of oestrus (heat) then a prior examination may be necessary
to determine where she is in her cycle | The
mares are stabled at the clinic and regular examinations and scans are performed
to follow the development of follicles and uterine oedema. We
can then pin point the time of ovulation, organise the delivery of semen and inseminate
the mares. We
also have frozen semen storage facilities. We
suggest further scans to detect pregnancy are carried out 15 days after insemination. |
